Our Story

Our Story · ArtisanMade Studio

A love letter to
Rajasthani craft

Folklorei began with a simple belief — that the handmade traditions of Rajasthan deserve a place in the way we live today, not just in a museum.

How it began

From the craft heartlands of India, to your home

Growing up surrounded by the carvers, inlay artists and weavers of India, I saw extraordinary craft being made by hand every day — and I saw how little of it was reaching the people who would truly treasure it.

Folklorei by ArtisanMade Studio was born to change that: to work directly with artisan families, honour their skill with fair and steady work, and bring their pieces to homes across India and the world — each one carrying the story of the hands that made it.

We are a small studio with a large love for heritage. Every piece we send out is one we would be proud to keep ourselves.

The story in the name

Folklorei is drawn from folklore — the living stories, symbols and craft traditions handed down across generations of Rajasthan.

It is why every Folklorei piece is given its own name in Sanskrit or Hindi, and its own short story. Before it ever reaches your home, an object already belongs to a lineage — and once it's yours, you become part of the tale it goes on to tell.

The crafts we carry

Traditions kept alive by hand

We work with heritage techniques that have shaped Rajasthani homes for centuries — now reimagined for modern living.

Hand-carving

Solid wood shaped by master carvers — motifs, jaali screens and detail that only patient hands can achieve.

Marble inlay

Semi-precious stone set into marble in the Pietra Dura tradition — the same art that adorns Rajasthan's palaces.

Thikri mirror work

Hand-cut mirror fragments arranged into shimmering patterns — a craft of light, precision and endless patience.

Textiles & block-print

Hand-woven and hand-blocked fabrics carrying age-old Rajasthani motifs, dyed and printed the traditional way.

From hand to home

How a Folklorei piece is made

1

A story & a sketch

Every piece starts with a motif from Rajasthani folklore, drawn and adapted for how we actually live today.

2

Made by artisan hands

The right craft family takes over — carving, inlaying, mirror-setting or weaving each piece to order, never mass-produced.

3

Named & finished

The piece is finished with natural oils, checked by hand, and given its Sanskrit or Hindi name and story.

4

Carried to your home

Carefully packed and shipped across India and worldwide — ready to begin its next chapter with you.
